According to the China Aggregates Association, the Xiamen new airport project has entered the substantive construction stage, and 19.3 billion yuan is planned for the reclamation project. CAA predicts that the project will require a huge amount of aggregates, about 100 million cubic meters.

Recently, the decision on the allocation of state-owned construction land for the land formation and foundation treatment (Phase I) of the Daxiaodeng land reclamation project (about 9.81 square kilometers) in Xiamen, Fujian was approved, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent application of the project planning permit and the construction of new airport terminal building, the upper part of the runway and other projects. The decision shows that Xiamen Baymouth marine sand (about 95 million cubic meters of sand) was used as the filler for Daxiaodeng land reclamation project.

The reclamation of the third runway of the Hong Kong International Airport requires more than 100 million cubic meters of aggregates; the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge "only" uses 22 million cubic meters of sand for the artificial island reclamation project. As a new high-grade airport, Xiamen New Airport requires about 95 million cubic meters of sand to be excavated in the first phase of land formation and foundation treatment.

It is particularly worth noting that the marine sand used for land reclamation in this project comes from the Taiwan Strait area, which is generally called "strait sand" in the industry, and Taiwan Strait is one of the area where illegal marine sand mining is prominent. The project will have a major impact on regulating the mining of "strait sand"!

The land reclamation project (9.81k㎡) is the pilot and control project for the construction of Xiamen's new airport. The main construction include land formation, foundation treatment, bank protection and supporting projects. After years of research and demonstration, the project uses Xiamen Baymouth marine sand (about 95 million cubic meters of sand) as the filler.

The land formation adopts an advanced and efficient integrated construction scheme of raking, stroking, mining, transportation and blowing, and the foundation treatment mainly adopts the plug-in drainage and stacking preloading process, so as to speed up the project with a scientific, reasonable and cost-effective scheme.

Daxiaodeng land reclamation project
The land area formation and foundation treatment project of the land reclamation project (about 9.81 square kilometers) has an estimated total investment of 19.33322 billion yuan (excluding land acquisition and demolition costs, pipeline relocation costs and land use costs).

The project is located in the sea area on the east side of Xiang'an District, between Dadeng Island and Xiaodeng Island. It mainly implements 9.81 square kilometers of land area formation and foundation treatment, and raises the existing 3 square kilometers of land area. The elevation of the site shall be controlled by 5.25-10.1 meters. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

Location map of Xiamen New Airport

Xiamen New Airport is positioned as China's important international airport, regional hub airport, international cargo port airport, and cross-strait exchange gateway airport. The flight level is the highest 4F level in the world, and it is one of the 18 4F level airports in China. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, and the transition will be completed and put into operation in 2025.

In the near future, it can meet the needs of 62 million passenger throughput, 1 million tons of cargo and mail, and 510,000 aircraft takeoffs and landings in 2030. There are three runways in North 1, North 2 and South 1; in the long run, it can meet the needs of passengers in 2040. With a throughput of 85 million person-times, a cargo and mail throughput of 2 million tons, and the use of 630,000 aircraft take-off and landing, and it will have a main terminal area, approaching at both ends, three terminals, and four runways.
