China Aggregates Association published national aggregate prices of March 2024. The price of aggregates in most parts of the country remained stable, but the price in some areas fell significantly, including the price of gravel in some ports of the Yangtze River in East China fell by 3-6 CNY/ton, the price of river sand in Urumqi fell by 14 CNY/ton, and the price of aggregates in Shanghai generally fell by 3 CNY/ton. The price of sand in Poyang Lake and Dongting Lake in some ports of the Yangtze River has rebounded, with an increase of 3-4 CNY/ton.

Although major projects have been started in the first quarter, the demand for aggregates in various provinces and cities has not increased significantly, and it is generally significantly lower than the aggregates demand in the fourth quarter of 2023. What’s more, a number of large sand and gravel mines put into full operation, resulting in the fall of aggregates price along the Yangtze River. The price of aggregates in many aggregates quarries fell, such as some cities in Hunan and some cities in Chongqing!

Since the flood season began in mid to late March, the water level of Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake has risen, and some sand mining areas have entered the mining ban period due to the early warning of the water level of the river. Meanwhile, the arrival of flood season has also affected the transportation of sand and gravel to a certain extent, and multiple factors have led to the rise of price of Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake sand in various ports along the Yangtze River.

  • The price changes of aggregates in various regions are as follows:
In the west of Chongqing and the east of Chongqing, the price of gravel and manufactured sand generally decreased by 1-2 CNY/ton.
  • Washed sand in Urumqi area decreased by 14 CNY/ton.
  • The price of machine-made sand and gravel in Xiangtan area of Hunan Province continued to decline, with an average drop of 2 CNY/ton this month, the sand in Dongting Lake in Miluo area fell by 9 CNY/ton, and aggregates price in Shaoyang City fell by 3 CNY/ton.
  •  In Shanghai, crushed stone, manufactured sand and recycled aggregates generally decreased by 3 CNY/ton.
  • Due to the coming of the flood season, the price of sand along the port of Dongting Lake and Poyang Lake along the Yangtze River has risen, generally rising at about 3-4 CNY/ton. The price of crushed stone decreased by 3-6 CNY/ton.
  • Qingdao Chengyang District, river sand decreased by 10 CNY/ton, manufactured sand decreased by 5 CNY/ton, gravel decreased by 10 CNY/ton.
